Early turnout.

Posted by apostropher

The numbers of registered voters in North Carolina:
Democratic: 2,632,402
Republican: 1,933,645
Unaffiliated: 1,244,538

We have closed primaries, so 4,566,047 voters eligible to take part in the primaries. And you'd expect turnout to be low for the Republican primary, what with the nomination already being decided. The State Board of Elections reports just under half a million votes were cast during the early voting period.

I'll be interested to see what the final numbers are come polls closing tomorrow.

Actually, NC is semi-open, so unaffiliated voters get to vote too.

I'm unaffiliated, and I voted. You just have to choose which party you want to vote for.

I'm surprised that more people in NC are registered as Democrats than as Republicans... unless a lot of people changed their registration.

There have always been more Democrats than Republicans in NC. We've only had two Republican governors since Reconstruction.

Probably a lot of blue dog DINOs included in that number.

I guess it just surprises me because everyone always acts so conservative and... scary.

Though, the democrats are pretty scary, too.

Alot of the time it's a family thing. People are certainly more conservative in NC but I don't know how many times I was told "You vote the way your family always has." I know some uber-neocons who voted Democrat "cuz my daddy did." Likewise, I was a registered Republican (like my whole family) until I got older and realized I didn't like either party terribly much and switched to unaffiliated.

Geez. Won't Hillary quit already!?!?! What on earth is she hanging on for now?!?!

Obama might not be my favorite person who ran, but he's my favorite guy _running_ now. He is the only one who oversee America's decline into a respectable second rate power such as Great Britain. With the others I'm thinking I'd rather be living in Argentina or Brazil. Better brush up on our Spanish and keep the passports active if McCain wins.

Hillary is just playing for something. She wants to deal some final cards at the convention.

Whatever. But the longer she does that, the more the country unites behind that escaped mental patient, McCain.
