Well, there's a week's worth of nightmares queued up.
Posted by: Ubu Imperator at October 28, 2007 11:31 AMWill Jackmormon be contributing to this thread?
Posted by: Clownæsthesiologist at October 28, 2007 07:04 PMReally: beypnd awesome. This needs to be introduced immediately to producers of trippy music videos.
Posted by: Clownæsthesiologist at October 28, 2007 07:06 PMHoly shit what the FUCK is that thing and get it away from me
Posted by: Jackmormon at October 28, 2007 08:32 PMThe teeth remind me of that horrible (as in, awesomely campy) Kraken in The Clash of the Titans. Christ, I had nightmares about that movie when I was a kid.
Posted by: Jackmormon at October 28, 2007 08:34 PMMinus 1 point to Jackmormon for misremembering the same movie that gave ME childhood nightmares.
The Kraken in Clash of the Titans did not have any tentacles. He was shaped like a mermaid with four arms and a head like the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Maybe you are thinking of Medusa from the same movie, whose head writhed with snakes? Eek.
Posted by: Gaijin Biker at October 28, 2007 11:31 PMAhh, minus 1 to me, because Jackmormon was only talking about the teeth. (But really, who has childhood memories of TEETH? What are you, a dentist or something?)
Posted by: Gaijin Biker at October 28, 2007 11:34 PMJaysus, apostropher. That's going to haunt my waking moments for weeks on end.
Posted by: Susan Z at October 29, 2007 01:55 AMThat's totally awesome. Please tell me you sent it to Ogged.
Posted by: bitchphd at October 29, 2007 01:58 AM8: Shit. Those kids didn't deserve that. The owner - apparently shameless and unremorseful - needs to have his pocketbook seriously lightened to compensate his victims.
7: The teeth are linked to the scary predator thing, GB. I think we're all subject to a little instinctive spine-tingling from seeing a set of dripping canines, even if we're never actually bitten.
But with this little critter, there's no sharp pointy anything. The little bugger is actually kinda cute, isn't it?

Imagine that thing grafted onto the snout of one of these!
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at October 29, 2007 08:30 AMThis, on the other hand, is an altered image (and not safe for work.)
The original BoingBoing thread has someone quoting an email from the supposed discoverer saying the "teeth" are actually just folds in the soft tissue surrounding the beak. Which makes sense as mollusks don't have any.
Posted by: lemuel pitkin at October 29, 2007 10:13 AMI am very sad to report that the link in 13 is a goatse.
Now.
Gaijin, I've spent almost twenty minutes searching for an image of the beastie that I was thinking of. It's shaped, basically, like a pre-fab meat pattie, and has this hideously girlish mouth with shovel-like teeth. I think it's the first monster to arrive to eat Andromeda. The Kraken whose image you linked to is what Perseus actually fights; this beastie just sort of subsides after the Kraken is defeated.
Anybody know what I'm talking about? Anyone?
Posted by: Jackmormon at October 29, 2007 02:10 PM"I am the very model of the modern major sea creature."
Posted by: Ru at October 29, 2007 08:37 PMI don't know whatchu talkin' bout, 'mormon. I'd have to watch the DVD and see.
