That's actually a picture from an eclipse in 2003. Cool, nonetheless.
I got up at 4:30 am to watch the eclipse with my mother, who is very into astrology (she doesn't take herself very seriously). As we watched the eclipse she kept remarking how *shocked* she was that no one else in the neighborhood was outside to witness such a monumentous occurrence.

The explanation seems slightly off - at the time of the full eclipse, the moon was visible "by sunlight reflected from the Earth, after being refracted through the Earth's atmosphere" would be right.
