Worm composting could be doing more harm than good to the environment, according to research in Germany.
I think this fails a full environmental cost accounting measure pretty clearly but I love a good challenge along the lines of 'it ain't what you don't know that gets you; it's what you know for sure that just ain't so...'
I can't buy this. It's not the cars and the industry, it's the worms!!
Uh huh, right.
Posted by: bitchphd at July 20, 2007 02:52 AMThe only thing that more knowledge can hurt is our preconceptions. N2O emissions are certainly a concern, but a little household recycling is probably insignificant. Still, this information may lead to better recycling systems. In the meanwhile, it may make sense to start capturing the N2O from the large commercial worm farms.
Actually, the Kyoto protocol recognizes agricultural methane capture as a CO2 offset - it can be tweaked to cover N2O as well.
Posted by: TokyoTom at July 20, 2007 07:27 AMMaybe we could get some synergy between the large commercial worm farms and the ærosol whipped-cream industry.
