Via Megan, this traffic-cam video of a highway storm drain erupting like a volcano is amazing. Whoosh!
The cars seem to keep driving blithely by even several seconds into the geyser, by the time they would have been able to see it from far enough back to stop. I would have probably stopped for fear of getting stuck.
Posted by: Clownæsthesiologist at April 28, 2007 04:57 PMA huge frickin lid to that thing that seems to have stopped one vehicle and its idiot driver, who seems to have no sense as to where to stand, either to stay safe or relatively dry.
Posted by: TokyoTom at April 28, 2007 08:35 PMApparently this is a common enough problem for that storm drain:

Posted by: Josh Myer at April 28, 2007 08:40 PMI still don't get how that drain is under 30 feet of head. What the hell is upstream of it?
Posted by: Megan at April 28, 2007 09:48 PMMary: good point, wow. If i wasn't on my phone's browser, i'd totally cross-reference gmaps and terrserver's USGS topo maps.
(What good is the web in my pocket if i can't do something as simple as that? Sheesh.)
Posted by: Josh Myer at April 29, 2007 04:48 PMSorry. IE7 can't seem to make the video work, as the page kindly points out. Can I assume it was awe-inspiring?
Posted by: NCProsecutor at April 29, 2007 04:48 PM6: Think fwww-wwwww-wwwWWW-WHOOOOOSSSHHH-shhhh-shhhh-shhhh....
Or something like that.

Yes, and you should also use IE7 to download a real browser, and then never look back. You'll be amazed how much better the internet is.
Posted by: apostropher at April 29, 2007 08:41 PMnever look back
On the contrary: once he has the real browser, he should certainly look back at the page he was unable to view in IE world. Otherwise why bother?
Posted by: Clownæsthesiologist at April 29, 2007 09:23 PM8: But I fear change. That's why I would never get married.
Oh, wait...
