Unbelievable.

Is there anybody left who will deny that Diebold is a goddamned disaster at handling elections? The only, only, reason to use their machines is for the express purpose of electoral fraud.

Also, Ohio: get your shit together already. You make Guatemala look good, for crying out loud.

Update: How embarrassing is it that Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the Western hemisphere, can run a cleaner election than the United States?

Arizona had a proposition on the ballot to make all voting by mail, with the board of elections requiring every registered voter to have been sent a ballot in the mail no fewer than fifteen days before the election.

I voted for it (in part) because Diebold will never get its hands on an AZ election if it passes.

I will never vote on a computer as long as I live: absentee ballots for me, thanks.

I wonder about the voting machines too, but that isn't the whole story...it's the tip of the iceberg. Some of it is gerrymandering the districts, and some of it is simply throwing away votes. All of this could seriously screw things up.

Link below to Greg Palast's take, a little kooky sometimes but sometimes right on the money.

As Stalin once said, "It's not who votes that counts, but who counts the votes!"

Here's my favorite quote about all things political; not sure who said it first:

"It's not the abuse of power so much as the power to abuse."

(I.e., if power is there unchecked it WILL be abused because that is a law of human nature--to be corrupted by power, that is...)

Jon, thanks for the link to Greg Palast, who is absolutely on the money. Republicans don't care about democracy at home, but about staying in power and keeping the benefits that gives them. Jerrymandering is also a huge piece of this, and has helped Republicans to choose their voters and to minimize the effects of Democratic voters (Dems also abuse this, but Reps have gotten the greatest benefit).

The electoral system is rotten at its core and needs to be changed. Dems need to keep their eye on this.
