I live in Texas and I have not seen a single Democrat ad. Not for any office at any level. Apparently the strategy here is to roll over and play dead.
Is it any better elsewhere? And can anyone explain why there are no national ads? This one is only 15 seconds -- maybe less.
Posted by: Charles Watkins at November 1, 2006 07:58 PMI live in Austin and have seen numerous ads for Chris Bell for Governor. I don't think I've seen any other statewide race ads for Democrats, but those were all longshots anyway and have had difficulty raising enough money for extensive TV ads. There have been plenty for Democrats in all the local races (Texas House and Senate seats, U.S. House seats, Texas 3rd Court of Appeals seats, etc.).
The national ads are (rightly) targeted at markets where they might do some good, i.e. where there are competitive U.S. House and Senate races. That doesn't apply to most of Texas. One exception that I can think of is the race for Delay's old House seat in Sugarland, where Lampson has a decent shot because his opponent (Sekula-Gibbs) has had to run as a write-in candidate due to Delay's late resignation.
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at November 1, 2006 09:16 PMI just realized that since I have DirecTV, a lot of local spots are blocked out in favor of the endless Bowflex and Earthlink commercials.
It's surreal seeing the Perry ads complaining about the unspecified lies by Bell and Strayhorn without ever having seen the offending ads. Makes me wonder why Kinky's not out there defaming Perry too.
Posted by: Charles Watkins at November 2, 2006 12:46 AMNo it's not. Unless you mean, "This is how screwing up and having to pull your foot out of your mouth is done."
I don't deny that there's plenty of negative news about Iraq that could be used to fuel an ad like Clark's. It's amazing he couldn't pull a few pieces of it together without tossing in an exaggerated and apparently outright fraudulent claim.
Posted by: Gaijin Biker at November 5, 2006 08:05 AMI don't get it, GB. Even the longer ad only says that Lansdown is an Iraq War Veteran, which is not in dispute, and Lansdown's line is "Because of Iraq, there are more terrorists in the world".
Where's the "exaggerated and apparently outright fraudulent claim" that you're claiming Clark tossed in?
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at November 5, 2006 02:31 PMWhoops, I confused the Clark ad with the McCaskill ad. My bad. But apparently Clark's campaign was concerned enough to cut Lansdale out of its ad.
Posted by: Gaijin Biker at November 5, 2006 07:06 PMAnd, um, not to get too personal, GB, but do you make a habit of reading Michelle Malkin?
If so, why?
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at November 5, 2006 10:12 PMI check in on MM's blog once in a while. I expressed my views on her here.

That's putting it rather mildly. The woman's an apologist for internment camps, fer chrissakes, not to mention a profoundly dishonest hack.
