Christ, what an asshole.

Nice choice of words, Pete.

Peter Roskam, the GOP candidate to succeed outgoing Rep. Henry Hyde, accused Dem opponent Tammy Duckworth of wanting to "cut and run" from Iraq during a debate a couple days ago. The use of this common pro-war talking-point in this case surprised some observers—not to mention Duckworth herself—because the veteran Duckworth lost both of her legs in Iraq.

Reference, in case you're unfamiliar with the title.

Why not write Roskam a nice little note at his website telling him what you think about him? He needs encouragement to STFU. There's very few instances other than giving money that people outside a district can help. This is one of them. If he gets enough polite outraged emails it just might tamp down his enthusiasm for being a grade A creep. And we all know when you take that away from a Repub it sucks the life right out of them.

Where is everyone? They have a funner thread here: http://www.reason.com/hitandrun/2006/09/the_dangers_of_1.shtml

Apo, your comment is way too mild.

It seems that even when responding to criticism from the Duckworth campaign, Rostam wants continues to pull Duckworth's leg with puns on her name and war injuries. His campaign manager says: "After ducking eight debates, I find it ironic that the Duckworth campaign has concerns about where Peter Roskam stands on the issues."

These guys are just a barrel of laughs! I sure hope this comes back and bites the Republicans big time.

I think that commenter Dave Adams at the TPM link has it right:

"If I were Ms. Duckworth's Campaign Manager, I'd run an ad starting with Roskums quote, and pictures of her in the service and in recuperation. Then I'd show campaign shots.

I'd have Ms. Duckworth doing the voice over, and saying:
"Contrary to Mr. Roskum's opinion, because of my service to my country, I'm no longer capable of running anywhere. I served my country so that people like my opponent can be free to say whatever they want, no matter how outrageous. While I can't run, I can still fight, and I'll never stop fighting for you."

"I'm Tammy Duckworth and I approve this message.""

BTW, wher are all the Republican war-wounded candidates? And why do Republicans do such a poor job of supporting vets?
