About face.

Posted by apostropher

Long a favorite of X-Files types, the Martian face in Cydonia has been mapped and imaged by the Mars Express orbiter.

Cydonia_face.jpg

Not a relic of an ancient Martian civilization, just a trick of shadows and the human mind's tendency to find patterns, but nonetheless quite interesting geologically. Several more fantastic images at the link.

I'm going to have such a talk with the Secret Masters, it's not even going to be funny.

Do I see layering and evidence of fluvial activity in those GORGEOUS images?

Dang it, where's my Firefly when I need it. I want to go in there and have a closer look, firsthand.

You're going to need heavier equipment than that.

NASA won't release images to the public unless everything they don't want you to see has been carefully edited out. How do we know this image is any different? For all we know, an ancient city could be under there, just like the ones discovered in South America by a researcher who did a low flyover in a small plane. What people had thought were "mountains" were actually cities buried under centuries (or more) of accumulated soil and greenery.

If I'm not mistaken, Captain Reynolds' Serenity, a Firefly-class piece of feyu, is able to break in and out of orbit of most planets and moons, and land just about anywhere. It has two shuttles and a ground hovering "mule". And it has spacesuits for the tough unterraformed rocks and space junk.

I think it would definitely be the way to visit Cydonia, if I had my druthers.

I've heard that NASA edits all kinds of things out of pictures, and doctors the colors of Mars images.

But I HAVE NOT heard that about the Europeans. If you want to see Mars in all its blazing color, see the ESA images.

And this here, friend, is an ESA image, not a NASA one.

As I mentioned elsewhere, this is obviously a Colossal Stature of the Flying Spaghetti Monster!

(Okay, it need some dusting-off, but I swear it's in there!)

(cripes, I meant "Statue"!! When I first posted this on Usenet, I misspelled "Colossal.")
