Yet another post devoid of original content.

Costa Ricans have big balls.

The solar occultation I mentioned yesterday has revealed a new ring, as well as "wispy fingers of icy material stretching out tens of thousands of kilometers from the active moon, Enceladus." Also, a fuzzy snapshot of Earth as it appears from Saturn.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Malkin.

Here are a ton of photographs from Banksy's LA warehouse show. What I'm most struck by is how normal Perry Farrell looks these days.

You can no longer have sex with a corpse in California, but there's probably still time to schedule your vacation in Wisconsin before they make it illegal there.

Election season always brings out the silly squad.

When Mississippi John Hurt wrote Big Legged Woman, he probably hadn't imagined Ms. Sellars.

Hard to say exactly what you'd charges you'd bring against this guy.

The Victorian Surrealism of Jeffrey Michael Harp's Hippopotamouse.

Sheperd Fairey is a lot younger looking than I expected.

Another good song on the theme is "Big Leg Woman Get My Pay" by Blind Boy Fuller.

I'm not certain, but I've heard it said that Ms. Sellars is not in possession of a soul.

Re: Malkin, can we all agree that executing someone without due process is a bit worse than detaining him without due process?

I think the complaint is that MM is outraged about the lack of due process in this case but does not care about it in the case of prisoners held by the US. Do you think that if the US started sentencing Guantanamo detainees to death, MM would get outraged about it? Because it would be more in keeping with her sentiments expressed up until now, to applaud it.

Also, note that the Indonesian Christians were convicted not of acts of terrorism, but of "inciting violence", which is basically a bullshit charge. You really, really never want to be on trial in Indonesia.

There are more than a few "detainees" who no longer draw breath, y'know. And they never had any charges, bullshit or otherwise, brought against them. But I haven't heard anything from Malkin about that except to defend the administration and denigrate either the patriotism or intelligence of anybody who who questions the adminstration's actions. I don't know enough about the guys in Indonesia to have an opinion about their relative guilt or innocence, but I'll say right now that Malkin quite obviously has different standards of justice based on what religion the accused follows.

But I'll agree that I'd never want to be caught up in Indonesia's legal system.

Zappaddict that you are, you reference Mississippi John Hurt instead of "Big Leg Emma?" For shame.

It used to be that accusations of moral relativism were one of the favorite hammers employed by RWDs against us liberals. Guess that's OK now.

As far as the "bullshit" charges against the defendants, even Maglagangadingdong at least honestly states the nature of the charges: "Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus da Silva and Marinus Riwa were condemned to death because they were found guilty of masterminding a massacre of 200 Muslims in Poso during inter-faith clashes in 2000." See also: "The men ... were found guilty of leading a Christian militia that was involved in a series of attacks on Muslims in May 2000 on the island of Sulawesi, including a gun and machete assault that killed at least 70 people who had taken refuge in an Islamic school."

More irony is to be found in the fact that the controversy arises out of evidence allegedly discovered five years after the convictions. These three had a trial, an appeal and a supreme court review in 2001. After all of those procedural steps to safeguard their rights, new evidence supposedly appeared in 2006 that placed the blame on others. No mention of the fact RWDs advocate the abolition of habeas corpus and have imposed other obstacles for post trial relief in criminal cases based upon evidence discovered after conviction.
