Shake it more gently.

Deep in the bowels of the Mineshaft, I was pointed to a pretty sweet acoustic indie version of Outkast's "Hey Ya" by Obadiah Parker. I'd not heard of the band previously, but I stopped being hip somewhere around 1994 so no surprise there. The video is here and links to the mp3 are here.

I also highly recommend the hysterical (as in heavy-breathing kinda psycho) beeping punkish version of "Hey Ya" by Blankket.

Obdidiah.

[*sighs wistfully*]

Almost as good as Jedidiah. I like it already.

I keep waiting to see how the exodus of black urban culture to the white suburbs (ala Scottsdale et. al.) pans out. Not what I expected as the end result of 3 of 4 hip hop albums being bought by white men... but I like nonetheless.

The first song like this I heard was a country version of Gin and Juice back in 2001. I remember a slow version of Baby Got Back, too. Indeed, similar experiments are everywhere these days.

The above link goes to mash-ups, not re-recordings, but same idea.

This brings up something that has troubled me for a while:

While Snoop is rolling down the street, smokin indo, and sipping on gin and juice, he claims to be "laid back". And yet he also clearly states that his mind is on his money and his money is on his mind. How can he be laid back when he's got worries over money?

I suppose he could be saying that he has so much money that he doesn't have to worry, so he's laid back, but he just likes thinking about all the money he has. You know, kind of like a hobby or something. I guess that could work.

Endo, not indo.

Well, both "endo" and "indo" are plausible.

But in a fight, the winner is clear.
