Strangers with Candy is opening nationwide this week, and the TV show was one of my favorite things ever to be beamed across the airwaves. I was completely unaware, however, of the woman who inspired it all, Florrie Fisher. Tons of links to mp3s and videos of the original Jerri Blank are in this fantastic post. Spend a little time with it; you won't be disappointed.
TrackBackI loved SWC, but I'm not actually sure I made it through an entire episode because it's the sort of funny that hurts. I want to watch the movie, but I may have to wait for video so I can digest it in fifteen-minute chunks.

My favorite episode was the Faulkner moment when she realizes her new boyfriend is the kid she gave up for adoption.

There's some funny moments but it never quite gels as a movie in the way it did as a TV show. Amy's funny, but the script is extremely average, and the film's stuffed to the brim with smug celebrity cameos. Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello did a fairly vicious and mean-spirited Q&A afterwards where they openly mocked audience members who asked (admittedly) stupid questions. I may just be a curmudgeon, though -- the rest of the audience seemed to love it.
