Starts out like any other gruesome car crash story:
The severed head of a man's wife flew from his pickup truck Thursday when he crashed into an oncoming car, killing the driver and her child, police said.
Sure, head-on crashes can be terribly destructive events for the folks in the vehicles. Except:
TrackBackThe head, which landed on the roadway after the crash early Thursday, is unrelated to the accident. [...] Police interviewed Alofa Time, who was not injured, and then obtained a search warrant for his home that he shared with his wife, where they found the headless body of his wife, 47-year-old Theresa N. Time. Police said she likely had been dead for several hours.
I really want to know how to pronounce "Alofa," so I can know whether it is more appropriate to say, "You can fool some of the people, Alofa Time," or whether it is better to wax poetic about "Alofa Time, a jug of wine, and thy wife's severed head."
Posted by: My Alter Ego at June 16, 2006 11:44 AMOfficer: What's this? It came out of your car . . .
Alofa: That's not mine!
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 16, 2006 08:27 PMGood one, GB!
Theresa Time to sow.
Theresa Time to reap.
Theresa Time to live.
Theresa Time to have your fucking head cut off by your husband.
Listen, is there a chance this story is a hoax? I mean come on, "alofa time" and "theresa time"? I think somebody from Boise is making prank calls to the AP.

Posted by: arthegall at June 19, 2006 04:02 PMI can't believe the human race has deteriorated to the point of husbands severing wives heads and onlookers or others making fun of the deceased and the whole situation!!! Sad!!!!
Posted by: "only human" at June 21, 2006 03:10 PMWhen was this golden age of which you speak when humans refrained from visiting unspeakable crimes upon each other and laughing at the misfortunes of others?
Also, to be clear, none of us here are happy or think it's funny that someone cut off his wife's head, but it is odd, and perversely humorous, that it was found at the scene of a car crash.
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 21, 2006 03:16 PMTo be fair, "only human" does not mention a Golden Age when things were otherwise. His/her usage "deteriorated" implies that s/he believes in such a Golden Age; but I think there is a reading of his/her comment which does not require its existence. Viz., s/he could be speaking of a metaphysical, universal deterioration -- a falling away from a Platonic ideal which is however not posited as actually ever existing -- and saying s/he cannot believe how strongly the actual human race fails to live up to this ideal. "O tempora, o mores!" I think can be cried without any necessary allusion to the good old days.
Posted by: The Modesto Kid at June 21, 2006 03:37 PM"O tempora, o mores!" I think can be cried
Unless your head has been cut off.
Posted by: apostropher at June 21, 2006 03:39 PMIf TMK's head were cut off, I just might cry "Go tempora! Go mores!"
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 21, 2006 04:11 PMIf his head were cut off in a Japanese restaurant, resulting in blood spurting all over the food, I might cry "O tempura, o morays!"
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 21, 2006 04:35 PMWhy thank you.
Unless you were being sarcastic, in which case: fuck you, you tool!!!
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 22, 2006 09:49 AMFirst of all... Time isn't pronounced like the clock measurement... It's pronounced Tee-may!!
Second of all... I personally knew this woman and she was my best friend's aunt!!
Finally to all you idiots who make fun of this poor woman's fate to her ex-husband's domestic abuse.. I have only this to say... May GOD forgive you for your lack of judgement!!! I find none of this funny... You better pray that your wife, daughter, sister, or even your mother doesn't suffer this terrible fate. If she does... will you find any of this funny?? I highly doubt it!!
Posted by: bgwill at June 24, 2006 08:27 PMThank you bgwill.
I was reading through it all and couldn't believe what I was reading!
I personally know Theresa's sister as she is a very close friend of my family.
Reading the cruel comments just broke my heart and although I've always known it... it made me realise even more how much of a cruel world we live in.
However, Theresa is now at peace.
Posted by: Aje at June 25, 2006 02:50 AMShe was not a good person and she knew what kind of games to play with people and alofa, i'm a person that had personal experiences with her and i won't miss her threatening phone calls and her psychotic thoughts.
Posted by: katsinanottotheresa at June 25, 2006 10:30 PMThere will always be two sides to a story, but one thing for sure is that Theresa did not deserve to die the way she did. It is so sad to see that some people after reading their comments are so incosiderate, it makes us wonder whether they are human beings. Our hearts go out to Theresa's three sons. May God be with you always.
Posted by: moronz at June 26, 2006 12:19 AMbgwill is right. The name "Time" is not pronounced like the word.
I've found an audio file of the correct pronunciation here.
Posted by: Gaijin Biker at June 26, 2006 06:57 AMI know this woman also she is going to be my aunt in law this fall but she will be in my heart.. she is very lovely person so ya all enough with this sick joke u guys dont have any heart! your guys are so gross! you are making her family very pissed off..you dont know her family so good luck to ya all who talking sick shit joke about her..
Posted by: Haylee at June 26, 2006 07:25 AMYou're evil, GB, evil.
Funny as hell too of course.
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 26, 2006 10:15 AMto katsinanottotheresa ... you know something, she may have been what you say she is... but no person deserves what happened to her. your personal "experiences" with her don't justify death... a violent and horrific death at that. and as for playing "games" with alofa... please! he has a history of abuse w/ his previous wife as well as other girlfriends... was it their fault too? did they allll play games with him? did alofa do no wrong? i don't wish death on anyone, but have it be one of your "psychotic" loved ones and see if you feel any different.

Posted by: kawena at June 29, 2006 03:36 PMall of you making fun of her murder are sick bastards.
Well, of course we're sick bastards. However (and this is an important point), we are sick bastards who use proper spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
Posted by: apostropher at June 29, 2006 03:43 PMapo, how do people find these old threads?
Are they just googling "alofa time" or "parsis rule persians drool" or something?
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 29, 2006 03:44 PM"Old thread" is a peculiar description of this one, which is going on 2 weeks. It is not on 'Postropher's phront page; but I do not suspect Kawena ("Carena" with a Porky Pig voice?), wow, Haylee, moronz, katsinanottotheresa, bgwill, or aje of being regular readers of this blog.
Posted by: Clownæsthesiologist at June 29, 2006 03:47 PMKawena Kawena,

That's my guess. Hey, look! Alofa has his own Wikipedia entry now.
Posted by: apostropher at June 29, 2006 04:05 PM...sick bastards who use proper spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
I think this is a better tagline than "Doggedly searching for the crux of the biscuit".
Posted by: Gaijin Biker at June 29, 2006 09:50 PMClownęsthesiologist, that made me laugh so hard that I sneezed!
Posted by: Sheila at June 29, 2006 10:26 PMseriously all you people who make fun of the death of this poor woman are sad little people. this lady was the mother of a personal friend of mine. and i wish God will have pitty on all your souls for this. probaly all of you are pasty fat bastaeds who the closest you have ever been to a woman is either waiting in line at blockbuster or the hooker you hire to take your virginty away at 35. oh and i could give 2 shits and a fuck about proper spelling and grammar. i hope all of you suffer a worse fate than this sweet woman did. goodnight and fuck off assholes
Posted by: Drift_This at June 30, 2006 06:25 AMi could give 2 shits and a fuck about proper spelling and grammar
Yes, that's apparent.
goodnight and fuck off assholes
Now that's just mean.
Posted by: apostropher at June 30, 2006 08:45 AMActually, M/tch, in light of the steady stream of subliteracy that has appeared, I'd like to change my guess from google to somebody linking here from a myspace page.
Posted by: apostropher at June 30, 2006 09:07 AMSo I've been wondering, is apostropharianism objectively pro-decapitation?
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 30, 2006 10:11 AMAnd GB, that article you linked is weird. It refers to the woman's body, and to the man being charged with assault and with abandoning her body, but it never comes right out and says whether she's dead, and if so if they're charging the man with murder.
Japan: so inscrutable.
Posted by: M/tch M/lls at June 30, 2006 10:14 AMis apostropharianism objectively pro-decapitation?
Posted by: apostropher at June 30, 2006 11:10 AM...and then there's this guy, who tried to cut his wife's head off after the car crash. Those wacky Brits!
Posted by: Gaijin Biker at July 5, 2006 08:12 PMThat Wikipedia article is AOTW insane.
Alofa Time's unusual name has raised speculation about whether he is an illegal immigrant, and his act of beheading has raised speculation about whether he is, or was influenced by, an Islamic extremist. News reports contain no information about either of these points.
Doesn't that translate into, "People, on the basis of absolutely no evidence, used this tragedy to rant about Islamic extremism and illegal immigration, because they're EVERYWHERE"?
Posted by: Matt Weiner at August 17, 2006 10:30 AMI think these people need to pick up the pieces and get on with their lives.
Posted by: Robust McManlyPants at August 17, 2006 01:19 PMI can't believe I'm getting away with that one.
Posted by: Robust McManlyPants at August 19, 2006 04:15 AMI know I am a little late commenting on this old story but, I must address Drift_This and others like him or her.
I am a woman, I am almost 40 years old and have several long term relationships but never married, you know why? No one is good enough for me, HOWEVER all of my boyfriends were WONDERFUL people and not ONE would ever even THINK of hitting a woman. You make choices in life; deal with the consequences. I think this whole "battered wife syndrome" is just as pathetic as anorexia. GET A LIFE all you LOSER WOMEN!
I'm sorry, for the grieving families. They are the victims of abuse..please, neither sides of the families need to add to the abuse. I know first hand , about this man. Unfortunately, Theresa was the victim. No matter, what kind of person you were, abuse in anyway is abuse. We all may have that right to our opinions, but, keep in mind the children. We need to find in our hearts to help the children..they too, are the victims. Please, stop hating, and be a part of the solution. May God, be w/ my nephew...We love all of you..
lol, Ann
