There are things.

Scientists at Ohio University got quantum dots to talk to each other.

A couple of fascinating articles via Deep-Sea News: one on the dawn of deep ocean mining and another on the secret sex lives of deep sea nomads.

The Peter Pepper.

"A family in Hilo, Hawaii, has sued a doctor after the man admitted he implanted a screwdriver into the neck of a patient, instead of titanium rods."

Japan just launched a new space telescope that will use infrared to map galaxies forming at the edge of the universe.

Quebec mom gets in fistfight with a polar bear to save her kids playing hockey.

Bob Jones University kicks Starbucks off campus for being too gay. How so? An Armistead Maupin quote on the side of the cups.

That could be the first step to true peace between quantum dots.

I'm amazed a Starbucks got on the Bob Jones campus in the first place.

I'm amazed the BJU students and/or staff were literate enough to read the quote. $1 says they mispronounced his name when they voiced their complaint.

No mention in the article of the flack Starbucks took when they added a quote from Christian author Rick Warren. Kudos to Starbucks for using quotes from all viewpoints and not backing down when the quotes do exactly what they were designed to do, provoke discussion (and provide fodder for blogging).

The Armistead Maupin thing sounds familiar; did some other group have a hissy fit at Starbucks over the quote in the last few years?

Yeah, Baylor.

Well, can't Starbucks replace the current Maupin quotes with some of the right-wing drivel that he spewed when at UNC writing for the DTH?

Owait, I think I have been brainwashed - instead of FIGHTING The Man I am now MARKETING to The Man. Yikes.

You'd think a place called "BJU" would be cool with a variety of sexual practices...

BTW, Starbucks also included a quote from an author you guys will no doubt find offensive...

Quantum dots - ho hum. The Japanese have just provide the first demonstration of the unconditional quantum telecloning of optical coherent states!

Okay, further explanation: they symmetrically and
unconditionally telecloned coherent states of light from one sender to two receivers, achieving a fidelity for each clone of F = 0.58 ± 0.01, which surpasses the classical limit. This is a manipulation of a new type of multipartite entanglement whose nature is neither purely bipartite nor purely tripartite. So there.

Moving on, perhaps you should not have linked to the article on how deep sea fish congregated on the mid-oceanic ridges. The Japanese read this blog, and already satellite images show fishing fleets moving to the region. I just wonder what's coming next to my local sushi shop!

Bob Jones, arrests of Muslim newspaper editors - we're all the same. Tolerance is intolerable!
