All the President's Men II: Electric Boogaloo

Posted by apostropher

Michael Bérubé is casting for the Plamegate movie, and puts together a good list. James Caan as Scooter Libby is perfect, as the picture demonstrates. The rest of his list is:

JOHN LITHGOW as Karl Rove
LOUISE LASSER as Judith Miller
PAUL GIAMATTI as Matt Cooper
MATTHEW BRODERICK as Patrick Fitzgerald
ALBERT FINNEY as Joseph Wilson
RANDY QUAID as Tim Russert
DON S. DAVIS as Dick Cheney
LORNE GREENE as Robert Novak
and
LISA KUDROW as Valerie Plame

Over at Unfogged, Fontana Labs says, "John Lithgow? No way. It must be Philip Seymour Hoffman as Rove." Yes, yes, agreed. So it must. And I'll propose the following amendments:

Joe Wilson
Judy Miller
Dick Cheney
George W. Bush

Sadly, Jim Varney passed away a few years ago...

It's going to be really difficult to get Lorne Greene to play Novak. Has anyone asked the executor of his estate? (Oh. Wait a minute. Lorne Greene would be perfect as Robert Novak!)

Just do with Jim Varney what "Good Night and Good Luck" did with McCarthy; just use archival footage from "Ernest Goes To Africa" or "Ernest Shits Himself In Absolute Terror."

I thought Dreyfuss did a good bit as Senator Bob Rumson in The American President- needs a little more jowls, maybe, but Mr. two Oscars could pull off the sneer that is the key to Cheney.

And speaking of Aaron Sorkin projects, who gets tapped to direct?

No way, dude. It must be Angus Scrimm for Cheney. Director? Oliver Stone, of course. Unless we could talk Michael Moore into it. Either way, the howls of protest would be delicious.

"What would the dramatic climax of this movie"

Angus Cheney* killing Fitz with that damn'd flying, bladey gizmo (*since Apos insists)?

Oliver Stone...

So, we begin with Delay, Norquist, Rove, et. al. in their College Republican Days as young recruits in "boot camp"- or with Libby, Wolfowitz, Kristol, et. al. as young recruits over at PNAC, with Cheney as the drill sergeant?

Nah, hearing the howls of indignation when Big Mike gets tapped would be delicious, and maybe his background as a documenter would lend the feel of The Office.

Mi-chael, Moore!

Damn, I can smell Palme D'or already...

Peter Lorre as Novak. Being dead isn't really a hinderance to playing Novak, in fact it makes the makeup guy's job easier.

I thought Dean Stockwell as Libby.
