Reality Czech

Posted by apostropher

Czech sculptor David Cerný is best known for his tower-crawling babies and pink tanks, but he's got pages and pages of photographs of other installations and proposals at his website that will keep you entertained for a good stretch. Not to say that he doesn't have some very dark work, just that the big absurdist pieces make me wish there was more like it around here. Start at his main page and wander through the links on the left. The ones linked below are by no means the main highlights, just the ones I noticed first.

The title says "Shark" but I'm thinking giant Saddam Jello mold.

"The building is Prague’s National Theatre, in a very prominent position on the bank of the Vltava river. The sculpture was supposed to be installed in May 2003, right before Czech referendum about entering the EU. At the end of February the board of the Theatre cancelled it, fearing that they would all lose their jobs." [This seems to happen to him a lot.]

Very eyecatching bus stop. Notice the garbage can. Also, the world's coolest parking deck.

Heads or tails?

I like big buttresses and I cannot lie.

Here's one concept it's safe to say he won't ever get to carry out.
