Like the fist of God we will smash them! (via Horklog)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
(it's OK to laugh at that, right?)
I had the pleasure of seeing Eugene Mirman open for Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn in Austin during SxSW in March; he had a hilarious multimedia presentation that included a different phone call (a phone company that wanted you to know that they were against same-sex marriage)
Oh the humanity. When I listen to the integrity in that young girls voice, her basic honesty and good nature, I feel an empathy with all humanity.
O.K. she's wrong, but she's sincere (even though she's floging a little product along the way).
Yes she's interpreted God the wrong way, but hey that's hard not to do in the America of today!
And she's trying to protect something that IS beautiful, the familial society that is the basis of loving, respectful, social community.
I swear, listening to her earnest conviction moved my heart.
God (no definition) bless her.

waldo, what are you smoking?
God bless ignorant haters who don't require actual evidence to believe terrible things about other people and will actively seek to harm them based upon shoddy information!
God bless that.
The NAZI's, man, they just had this beautiful, utopian dream, man. Oh sure, they did some bad stuff, but, they were full of earnest conviction, and trying to protect their families!
Posted by: Michael at May 13, 2005 01:05 PM Listen to her again. She's no Nazi. It shows how good people can go down the wrong path.
Does anybody know her phone number?
waldo, right, good people down the wrong path = bad people. I'm serious about many of the German people having the best of intentions. The road to hell and all that.
She's accusing MCI of sponsering hard-core child pornography. Yeah, right. She's ACCUSING Verizon of tolerance of alternate lifestyles.
So, 1. she sees no problem with slander which, if other people took it seriously, could cause serious harm, and 2. is intolerent of not just other people's harmless lifestyles, she's intolerent of tolerence of other people's lifestyles!
How does that not make someone a bad person? What qualifications do you have?
"We will destroy the gays."
"exactly"
I don't make comparisons with the NAZI's lightly, but I *really* think it's an apt comparison here. She's part of the machine which buys into this crap of the pure "us" who are merely defending themselves against the immoral, antagonistic "them." She's a proto-nazi. There are many reasons why the anti-gay movement won't become a holocaust, but this woman embodies the reason why, in a different place, it could.
I get the feeling that, despite her evident hatred of gays, you think it's a sort of nice hatred. To that, I say that her pleasant tone of voice when talking to a perceived fellow hater does not at all reflect what the timber of her voice will be when confronting the actual "menace."
Posted by: Michael at May 14, 2005 02:31 AMI feel strongly enough about this that I just want to iterate that people like that woman scare me. Look, in understanding how the holocaust, and other similar human atrocities, happened, you have two basic groups. You have those who are the causual agents, who get up and push things in certain directions. Then you have the complacent public who buys into the bullshit being peddled by the first group. "The Jews are undermining our society!" "Really? Someone better stop them! Oh, you'll do it? Thanks." This woman is somewhat in-between. She's bought into the hateful lies, and has become a part of the machine, pushing to spread the lies and the hate. There are very real, very human consequences to that. If people like her don't cause a human atrocity, it's because of the time and place that they're in, not for lack of dangerous stupidity.
Posted by: Michael at May 14, 2005 02:39 AMHey Mike
First off, I don't share her views. She's wrong and I understand why you would be angry at her, and me for trying to justify her behaviour.
I have the luxury of not living in the US, and sometimes I see stuff on the net that I believe is an over-reaction. I try to point out that even if people get it wrong, e.g. bush's re-election, that doesn't make all of them nazis, or even bad people.
One of the greatest dangers to America today is the tearing of the social fabric. The greatest crimes of Rush, O'Reilly and Coulter are the divisions they're creating. I know this girl's doing just that, but I don't see her the same way. Whereas Coulter and her fellow whores are rabid to the point of frothing so as to make a profit and will tear someone apart with falsity, this young girl seems to be trying to do something to protect American society as she has been taught to see it.
I'm probably wrong here; there's every possibility that this young woman is a Malkin clone looking for a way in to the money machine. I'm trying to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I just didn't hear the viciois snarl or the sibilant sneer that epitomises the true hypocrite.
The apostropher will tell you I've written a couple of other times urging people to try to be tolerant. In the words of Uncle Frank "Sure there's one born every minute - that doesn't mean you have to kick his (or her) ass. Cut the schmuck some slack".
America is in crisis, there's so much bad feeling being expressed that it seems to be colouring the whole of the national dialect. I was trying to ameliorate that in a small way. Sorry if I was over zealous.
Waldo, I'm not angry, sorry to come accross that way. And I don't think this woman is as bad as a Coulter or Malkin. I really mean it when I say that people like her frighten me, as opposed to anger me. The woman is taking part in something that could get very ugly if it was let to grow on its own. I think the biggest problem isn't just that she has a problem with gay people, it's that she's spreading viscious "information." It's the casual demonization that gets to me, because that's how, to my knowledge, conflicts start. The Germans demonized the Jews, the hutus demonized the tutsis. And it was done via this same method, "Do you know what THOSE people are up to?" This kind of stuff strikes me as very dangerous. But, you are potentially right. This woman is quite likely simply not thinking. Maybe you could inform her otherwise. I doubt it, though. My experience with people whom I *suspect* she resembles is, she's told X, goes with X. You tell her Y contradicts X, she goes with it for a bit. Someone tells her X again, she's kinda forgotten Y, and goes with X, because, in a deeper way, she really believes X even when you tell her Y. I hope that makes sense. I'm basically saying it's hard to convince people when they have deep ingrained beliefs. But, I'm making generalizations. I could very well be wrong in this particular case.

Thanks for the note.
I'd like to find out about her.
Again, anyone got a contact number?
Any imputation of sincerity to Ms. Caller (who likely doesn't use a real name) is misplaced IMHO. I've only listened to the first link as of yet, but her agenda is clear; she doesn't really care what Merman believes as long as he believes they are on the same team. Once the hook is set, she'll tag him with $19 a month he'll never get out of (& I suspect there are hidden charges). It's a disgraceful tactic regardless of the apparent content of her talking points.
Posted by: Rah at May 16, 2005 12:57 AMWaldo,
Heeheeheehee.
Yeah, she's a sweet young thing alright, and it would be awesome to hear her scream out with pleasure to Jesus, but even I have to draw the line somewhere.
