How many countries must a fellow invade before he qualifies for one of these things?
So I pose a question. What are the chances that President Bush will receive the Nobel Peace Prize before he leaves office? I think the chances are very much in his favor. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that unless an unseen catastrophe happens in the region, he will receive the Prize.
Fair enough, but what I want to know is: when is Mr. T going to get that Oscar for Lifetime Achievement?

Democracy in Saudi Arabia.
Yeah, that's a Bush Administration goal...

That's all I'ma say.
Posted by: Brad Reed at February 2, 2005 05:34 PMAnd Leo DiCaprio just won a "lifetime achievement award." Although granted, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" was a lot better than the Iraq invasion.
Posted by: Jake at February 2, 2005 06:23 PMMarissa Tomei getting an Oscar? Robin Williams getting some lifetime achievement bullshit at the Golden Globes? Henry Kissinger getting his very own Nobel Peace Prize for not killing every single person he potentially could have?
Stranger things have happened!
Posted by: norbizness at February 3, 2005 08:59 AMYou folks are forgetting that the Nobel Prize committee is made up of a bunch of Europeans who actively hate the guy. Okay, I don't know that for sure; in fact, I don't know it at all, but keep in mind that there was a widespread understanding that they gave it to Jimmy Carter just to piss off the Bushies.

Chances of Bush winning Nobel Peace Prize:
94% - If committee smokes crack and is high while voting.
71% - If committee smokes crack and is not high while voting.
77% - If Bush threatens smaller European countries with invasion - to 'fight the terrorists' - if they do not vote for him.
0% - If committee is composed of intelligent people connected to reality.
Posted by: Alena at February 3, 2005 04:18 PMHow exactly would an "unseen catastrophe" affect Bush's chances? I don't think the writer chose the wrong word, because no catastrophe in Iraq could ever be called "unforeseen."
Posted by: Lemon Merengue at February 4, 2005 12:33 AMAs Chris Rock said, "You how they say, 'Never say never'? Well, I'm sayin' never!"
Lately, it seems as though the Nobel peace prize is awarded only to appeasers (Carter), thugs (Arafat), or incosequential feel-good choices (last year's Wangari Maathai).
Not to people who actually create the conditions for real peace by removing the obstacles that stand in the way of it.
If you were gravely ill, would you want someone who was just hoping and praying that everything turns out all right, or a surgeon who will cut you open and fix the problem so you can actually heal?
