Big Blue Wave

Posted by apostropher

Dick Vitale's extremely pre-season basketball Top 30 is out and UNC, Kansas, and Kentucky go 1-2-3. The old school bluebloods crowd the roost. It must have caused Vitale great psychic pain to pick Duke as low as he did. The ACC represents, claiming fully half of the top ten slots:

1. UNC
4. Wake Forest
7. Georgia Tech
9. Duke
10. Maryland
20. NC State
30. Florida State

Heels, baby. The prospect of this level of competition in the conference should help ease the shame of what promises to be one painfully awful UNC football season, compounded by the ACC's addition of Miami and Virginia Tech. Ugh.

Every year ACC fans hope for an ACC only National Title game. Good GOD and Holy Moley... this could be the year...

Also of note, Wake will rep the ACC in the NIT 2004 pre-season tourney...

Yesterday I saw a license plate that read "4Duke&KY" and I thought to myself, "Damn! I'm not the only one who wants to fuck Duke in the ass."

Kan't ever kount out koach K.

Carolina is IIRC coached by Roy Williams. That makes them an excellent shot at reaching the Final Four. And losing.

This could certainly be the year for Wake, and Maryland's glory days are still fresh...

Hence, the national champion will probably be from another conference, as the ACC teams destroy each other in the conference tournament, and send 7 or 8 teams to the NCAA tournament anyway. (I'm thinking Big Ten, or
SEC wins it all this year). I do predict that my own alma mater (Columbia) will not win the national championship, however. Then again, what do I know?

After blogging a mini-rant about John Bunting and Carolina football, I got a loud phone call from Dad. "7 and 4, baby!!" I'm not sure what kind of Canadian pharmaceuticals the old man is doing, but if he thinks the Heels will win more than 2 games this year, they must be mighty fine! I have no idea why he continues to support the guy - he's probably a fine human being and it's good that he bleeds Carolina Blue, but I've seen no evidence so far that he can coach.

As for the basketball team, I think the number 1 pre-season is a bit much. I'd be ecstatic to be proven wrong, though!
