D'oh! A deer...

Scientists at Texas A&M University have produced Dewey, the world's first cloned deer because, you know, we are in real danger of running out of deer in this country.

What does being in danger of running out of a certain animal have to do with cloning it? I don't seem to recall this argument being made when they cloned Dolly the Sheep.
